Key Takeaway
DTI now has a direct enforcement pipeline to shut down fake online stores selling MLM products.
DTI E-Commerce Bureau Director Atty. Eryl Royce R. Nagtalon said effective e-commerce governance requires collaboration between government and industry.
The agreement establishes a framework for joint information sharing, consumer education programs, and capacity building to strengthen trust in the digital marketplace. Republic Act No. 11967, also known as the Internet Transactions Act, mandates DTI to promote a robust e-commerce environment while strengthening consumer protection and ensuring fair competition.
Direct Selling Association of the Philippines Chairman Joey Sarmiento said the partnership reflects a shared vision of a digital marketplace built on trust, accountability, and responsible innovation. As the direct selling industry embraces digital platforms, collaboration between the private sector and government is essential to safeguard consumers and protect legitimate businesses.
The Internet Transactions Act grants DTI regulatory authority including issuance of compliance and takedown orders against violators. DTI launched the E-Commerce Philippine Trustmark on July 7, 2025 under the ITA, certifying registered sellers compliant with fair practices and consumer protection standards. The MOU was signed on March 17, 2026.
🇵🇭 What This Means for Filipinos: Filipino consumers buying beauty products, supplements, and wellness goods on Lazada, Shopee, and Facebook Marketplace can now report suspected fake stores directly to DTI through DSAP's monitoring system. The E-Commerce Philippine Trustmark launched July 7, 2025 gives buyers a way to verify if an online seller is legitimate before sending payment.
