Figure Technology, Ninakawan ng 2.5GB na Customer Data ng ShinyHunters
2.5GB of customer data. That's what hacker collective ShinyHunters released publicly after blockchain lending platform Figure Technology refused to pay ransom demands.
Figure confirmed the breach and said it's now notifying affected customers. The exposed data includes full names, home addresses, dates of birth, and phone numbers. Hackers gained access through social engineering — they compromised employee credentials or hijacked an active session, then used an internal account to download a limited batch of records. Figure detected the suspicious activity and blocked further access, but the damage was done.
The company's core lending operations and Provenance Blockchain were untouched. Figure brought in external forensic specialists to review system logs and is offering free credit monitoring to affected customers.
The breach exposed personal information, not financial account access. However, that data can fuel phishing calls, fake loan offers, and account takeover attempts. ShinyHunters has a track record of hitting tech and finance firms with similar attacks.
Figure founder Mike Cagney launched the company in 2018 with co-founder June Ou after leaving SoFi. The platform rolled out crypto-backed loans for Bitcoin and Ethereum holders, plus services like Intellidebt for debt consolidation and Figure Connect for consumer credit in 2024. Last August, Figure merged with subsidiary Figure Markets and introduced Democratized Prime, a real-world asset lending pool on Provenance Blockchain.
