GCash Expands to 16 Countries with Same-Day Transfers
GCash rolled out international transfers to 16 countries including the US, Japan, and UAE. Recipients get funds in local currency without visiting a physical remittance center, with same-day crediting for most destinations and next-day transfers only to the United States.
Key Takeaway
GCash's international transfer service directly challenges traditional remittance channels that dominate the ₱1.5 trillion ($24.74 billion) OFW market.
Filipinos can now send money to 16 countries directly through GCash with same-day crediting for most corridors.
The e-wallet giant launched GCash International Transfers targeting families supporting loved ones abroad, students receiving allowances, and MSMEs sourcing overseas supplies. Recipients get funds in local currency without either party visiting a physical remittance center. Next-day transfers apply only to the United States, while most other destinations credit the same day.
GCash International General Manager Arjun Varma said the service reflects the company's commitment to extending financial inclusion beyond Philippine borders. He said Filipinos now have access to fast, affordable, and transparent international transfers for supporting family abroad, sending student allowances, or paying for cross-border goods and services.
The 16 supported destinations include the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada, Singapore, India, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. Users in provinces and remote areas with limited access to traditional remittance services can now send money anytime using the fully digital platform with real-time tracking.
GCash is running a zero transfer fees promotion from March 12-31 for Middle East transactions covering UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman with no minimum transfer amount required. Outside the promotion, fees start at $3.27 for the lowest tier — which GCash positions as significantly cheaper than the remittance charges banks typically impose.
The service comes as overseas Filipino remittances hit ₱1.5 trillion ($24.74 billion) in the January-August period, up 3% year-on-year, according to BSP data. GCash serves more than 94 million registered users and secured BSP approval for its international expansion efforts.
🇵🇭 What This Means for Filipinos: Filipino families can now send money to relatives abroad without visiting Western Union or bank branches — especially valuable in provinces where physical remittance centers are scarce. OFWs receiving funds through GCash avoid the 3-5% fees traditional money transfer operators charge, keeping more money in household budgets. The zero-fee March promo for Middle East corridors directly benefits the large Filipino workforce in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman.
