GCash, TransferGo Enable Direct Europe-to-PH Transfers
The partnership expands GCash's remittance reach into European markets where traditional banks still dominate cross-border transfers, offering Filipino diaspora a direct wallet-to-wallet alternative.
Key Takeaway
European Filipinos get a direct wallet-to-wallet option that cuts out traditional remittance middlemen.
GCash locked in a partnership with TransferGo that lets users in Europe and the UK send money straight to GCash wallets.
The tie-up targets Filipino migrants and OFWs who previously relied on traditional remittance services with slower processing times and hidden fees. TransferGo already serves over 8 million customers across more than 160 countries, but this marks its first direct integration with a Philippine e-wallet.
GCash International General Manager Arjun Varma said the partnership strengthens the company's international remittance network and ensures Filipino families get their funds quickly and safely. Recipients can use the money for bills, online payments, cash withdrawals, or other financial needs immediately after receiving it.
TransferGo CEO and co-founder Daumantas Dvilinskas said the company remains committed to providing more affordable and reliable money transfer solutions for the Filipino diaspora. The TransferGo deal expands coverage specifically across European markets where traditional banks still dominate cross-border transfers.
GCash hit a ₱300 billion ($5 billion) valuation in August 2024 after funding from Ayala Corporation and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, making it the Philippines' first ₱300 billion ($5 billion) unicorn. The company started as an SMS-based service in October 2004 before evolving into what it calls a finance superapp under its Finance for All vision.
🇵🇭 What This Means for Filipinos: OFWs in Europe and the UK can now skip traditional remittance centers and send money directly to family GCash wallets with instant availability. This competes with conventional channels and gives recipients immediate access to funds for GCash payments, bills, or cash-out at partner locations.
