Vitalik Buterin sold over 8,800 ETH in February, marking an acceleration in the Ethereum co-founder's disposal of tokens.
On January 30, Buterin announced the Ethereum Foundation would enter mild austerity mode and allocated 16,384 ETH for personal funding of development projects over the coming years. Since February 2, Buterin has sold 7,386 ETH worth roughly ₱899.96 million ($15.5 million) through his Gnosis Safe Proxy wallet.
The pace is aggressive. Buterin sold approximately 50% of his original austerity allocation within three weeks. On February 22, he withdrew 3,500 ETH from Aave and immediately sold 571 ETH for ₱65.61 million ($1.13 million). He's been converting ETH to stablecoins GHO and USDC through CoW Protocol.
Ethereum inflows to Binance reached their highest level since November 2025 during the same period. Buterin still holds roughly 224,106 ETH across ten addresses, worth approximately ₱24.15 billion ($416 million).
Buterin recently warned about Wall Street's growing influence through institutional staking, which he believes could centralize Ethereum. Arkham Intelligence data shows BlackRock has become the fourth-largest identifiable on-chain entity with over ₱3.31 trillion ($57 billion) in blockchain-based holdings as of February 23, 2026.
