Key Takeaway
Filipino crypto holders can now spend USDT and USDC at 700,000 stores without cashing out first.
Coins.ph CEO Wei Zhou announced the platform now supports USDT and USDC payments at QRPh-enabled merchants across the country.
The feature integrates with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' national QR code standard, making it instantly compatible with nearly 700,000 merchants — from neighborhood sari-sari stores to major retail chains. Users can choose between three payment modes: pure Philippine pesos, pure stablecoins converted to pesos at checkout, or a hybrid mix of both currencies in a single transaction.
Coins.ph processes the stablecoin conversion in real time and displays the exact exchange rate during checkout. Merchants receive pesos regardless of how customers pay. If a QRPh payment fails, the platform automatically reverses the transaction and refunds in pesos.
Zhou said the company built the feature to transform crypto from a passive investment into a tool for daily transactions. The platform processed ₱30.03 billion ($500 million) equivalent in QRPh transactions during December 2025 alone, demonstrating the existing infrastructure now open to stablecoin users.
The payment system supports Circle's USDC and Tether's USDT, the two largest dollar-pegged stablecoins by market cap. Coins.ph began rolling out the feature on April 22, 2026 to eligible users holding funds across different asset types.
🇵🇭 What This Means for Filipinos: PDAX and Coins.ph users holding USDT for remittances can now pay directly at Jollibee, 7-Eleven, and local merchants without converting to pesos beforehand. This bypasses the usual crypto-to-peso withdrawal step that incurs exchange fees and bank transfer delays. OFWs receiving USDT remittances gain immediate spending power through the BSP-approved QRPh infrastructure already used nationwide.
