Dorsey Revives Bitcoin Faucet, Returns April 6

Block founder Jack Dorsey posted an announcement Friday revealing that Bitcoin Faucet returns April 6.

The original Bitcoin Faucet launched in 2010 by software developer Gavin Andresen, who later became one of Bitcoin's lead developers. Andresen loaded the faucet with his own BTC and distributed 5 coins to each visitor for free. That same amount is worth ₱29,203,008 ($483,000) today, based on Bitcoin's price near $67,000 at the time of writing.

The faucet distributed 19,700 BTC total during its 2010 run. Dorsey's announcement came through Block's Bitcoin account with a simple message and a countdown timer hosted on btc.day. The page displays the headline "Bitcoin Day | Earn Free Bitcoin" but reveals no details about distribution amounts or eligibility.

Block has held 8,883 BTC since October 6, 2020, currently valued at ₱35.9 billion ($593.74 million). The company bought at an average cost of $32,939 per coin, putting its holdings up 102.92% despite Bitcoin's 50% decline over the past six months. The cryptocurrency peaked above $120,000 in November 2025 before stabilizing in the high $60,000 range by March 2026.

Dorsey has repeatedly stated Bitcoin must function as a payment system to stay relevant, not just a store of value. The faucet revival aligns with Block's broader Bitcoin infrastructure push, which includes developing an open-source mining rig, the Bitkey self-custodial wallet, and Cash App's BTC integration for everyday payments. Block ranks 14th among public corporate Bitcoin holders with a market cap between ₱2.18 trillion ($36 billion) and ₱2.24 trillion ($37 billion).
