GCash honored agencies at its 5th Digital Excellence Awards held February 19, 2025, at Grand Hyatt Manila in Bonifacio Global City. The awards recognized local government units and national agencies across 10 categories, including specialized awards for healthcare, education, and utility efficiency.
Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas reported 97% of government-to-government and government-to-employee transactions are now processed digitally, marking a milestone for Philippine public sector digitalization. Retail digital payments reached 57% of total transaction volume, according to BSP data.
Anti-Red Tape Authority Director General Ernesto V. Perez said digital excellence shows up in faster transactions, simplified requirements, and platforms that reach communities regardless of geography. The awards included a public markets category requiring at least 70% vendor adoption of digital payments.
Mynt Chairman Ernest Cu said GCash doubled down on its government partnership commitment in 2025, moving beyond mere access to deliver innovations people use daily. GCash VP and Head of Public Sector Cleo Santos said every leader recognized represents the belief that no Filipino should be left behind in the digital economy.
The Excellence in Digital Transformation Award measured sustained digital transaction growth from 2022 to 2025. GCash also introduced the Leader in Sustainable Financial Digitalization Award for agencies partnering with the platform for at least five years, alongside a Digital Breakthrough Growth Award for institutions that adopted digital solutions within their first year of operation.
🇵🇭 What This Means for Filipinos: The 97% digital government payment rate means faster processing for everything from SSS contributions to business permits, directly cutting the red tape that costs Filipinos hours in queues. The 70% vendor adoption threshold in public markets signals palengke vendors nationwide are now accepting GCash, making cashless grocery shopping mainstream in traditional wet markets where cash dominated for decades.
