The US Department of Justice seized a Telegram channel with 6,000 followers that recruited Filipinos and other nationals into forced labor at cryptocurrency scam centers in Myanmar. The channel promised high-paying jobs but delivered torture and human trafficking instead.

POGO job ads on Telegram are now confirmed recruitment fronts for forced labor in Myanmar crypto fraud mills.
US Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced criminal charges against two Chinese nationals who allegedly managed cryptocurrency fraud operations at a compound in Myanmar.
The Justice Department's coordinated strike took down more than 500 websites linked to the scam network. US authorities charged Huang Xingshan and Jiang Wen Jie with operating forced labor schemes at the Shunda compound in Min Let Pan, where victims recruited through Telegram were held against their will and forced to execute investment scams impersonating legitimate entities like JPMorgan, the NYPD, and the New York Supreme Court.
US Attorney Pirro told Southeast Asian journalists this goes beyond financial crime. She said the operation involves human trafficking and torture, and that criminals who thought overseas operations made them untouchable have been proven wrong.
The Telegram channel specifically targeted Filipinos with promises of POGO work in Cambodia. Once workers arrived, they found themselves trapped in Myanmar's crypto fraud compounds with no way out.
Authorities also offered rewards for information leading to the recovery of scam proceeds connected to the Tai Chang scam center in Myanmar. The two charged Chinese nationals remain at large with active arrest warrants filed by US prosecutors in April 2026.
🇵🇭 What This Means for Filipinos: Filipino job seekers using Telegram to find POGO or overseas work should verify employers through the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration. OFWs considering Cambodia or Myanmar opportunities should report suspicious job offers to the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group.
